Linux is a free open-source operating system based on Unix. The term "Linux" has come to mean the kernel and it's associated applications. Linux replaces old operating systems with robust and colorful desktops and servers, that are easy to use and very secure. Linux was originally created by Linus Torvalds with the assistance of developers from around the globe, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It's easy to see why Linux is is becoming so popular.

We provide Ubuntu Linux free of charge to whoever wants to use it. Get a free copy of Ubuntu 9.04 by calling 360-292-7777 and making an appointment to meet in Olympia. Ubuntu is great and comes with over 25,000 software applications available from the net for free. Technical support is available through this website and many others; all for free. The only thing that costs that costs money is the time you take to learn something new and it's very simple. The Olympia Linux Users Group exists only to help you use Linux and Free Software. We will do whatever it takes to help you get started and use Linux including hands-on installation and configuration if need be. All Olympia Linux Users Group services are free of charge and CD-Fund donations are nice so we can make more free copies (but never required). Thank you for reading this and thank you for using Linux!

* Take the Ubuntu Linux 9.04 Tour *

Download an Ubuntu ISO file for most PCs and burn a CD:

[ubuntu.osuosl.org]

Downloads for other machines are available too:

[ubuntu.osuosl.org]

To use the Ubuntu Linux CD boot it like you would a Windows CD. That's it! Then just watch what happens...

If you come to a meeting, or post in this discussion, you become a member of the Olympia Linux Users Group. There are never any fees for all of the goods and services we provided and any CD-Fund donations go to making more free copies; thank you. Our one goal is to help you use Linux and that's all we do. OlyLUG will always provide free software, installation, and support. We do this to promote the use of Linux and assist new users.

Getting help for specific questions:

Asking questions here is a great way to get help but more often it is best to use a search engine. For example if My wireless card in my laptop wasn't recognized but I knew it was a specific Broadcom product I would use the following for search terms:

ubuntu 9.04 wireless broadcom air force one

Then many others who have had to deal with this issue will become apparent:

Not everything can be answered in this way ao posting your questions here is a good option.
